who we are

Goombaragin Eco Retreat is a private and exclusive low key small family business that operates on the Dampier Peninsula just two hours drive north of Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and has been operating since the middle of 2006.

About the owner

Kathleen Cox, owner of the retreat, grew up in Beagle Bay Mission famous for its church that has been beautifully decorated with the mother of pearl shells and other shells collected by the local Aboriginals of the area.  She aspires to help, guide her family and Goombaragin towards a collaborative vision to work towards developing a viable sustainable Indigenous product.

Kathleen is proactively involved in several organisations where pathways are created for Indigenous businesses to access opportunities to market, network and develop ethical business management strategies to participate in the tourism industry as a whole.

Her family as Aboriginal missionaries are notably recognised in history for their tireless work in helping many Aboriginal people in setting up and building some of the Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley.
